The history around the Golden Mile

The Golden Mile of Madrid is located in the most exclusive neighborhood of Madrid, Salamanca, which got its name in honor to José de Salamanca y Mayol, 1st Marquis of Salamanca, who was very involved in this expansion project for the city.

Since the beginning, this neighborhood has been a favorite for influential people in Madrid and in the country, and several important Spanish figures of culture and science established here, setting the foundation of the exclusivity Salamanca is well known for today.

From an editorial to a shopping center

Located in the street of Serrano, right in the Golden Mile, the ABC Serrano, is not only one of the best shopping centers in Madrid thanks to the many top-quality shops it has, complementing the already great catalog of La Milla Dorada.

The beautiful buildings where this shopping center is located were originally the headquarters of the Spanish newspaper called ABC, and the Blanco y Negro magazine, which continued until the year of 1989.

More culture and history near the Golden Mile

There is no shortage of history and culture in the Salamanca neighborhood, because in this beautiful district of Madrid you will also find La Puerta de Alcalá, built to commemorate the arrival of Carlos III (Charles III), and one of the most well-known monuments in Madrid.

If you prefer visiting museums, you can actually visit two of them while still in Salamanca. The National Archeological Museum (El Museo Arqueológico Nacional), with pieces from all over Spain and the Mediterranean territory. And the Lázaro Galdiano Museum, where you can see the collection of Lázaro Galdiano, or assist to one of the different workshops and courses offered here.
